BIOSECURITY THREAT: DECLARED PEST: EUROPEAN WASP
The Department of Agriculture is urging residents in the South West to look out for fast moving wasps that are attracted to protein, following their detection in Busselton and the metropolitan Perth last year and recently in Australind.
Please make sure you are able to identify the wasp and its nest and report it.
The European wasp can be devastating for agriculture, the environment and to human safety and wellbeing. DPIRD says that “the wasps can kill domestic pets and make it simply too uncomfortable for people to be outdoors if they are present in large numbers. In severe cases wasp stings can be fatal for humans.”
