Varroa mite and other exotic pests are an ongoing biosecurity threat in WA. DPIRD is increasing its bee surveillance with sentinel hives at strategic locations, which are tested regularly, as well as surveillance of commercial hives.WA beekeepers are encouraged to be alert for signs of varroa mite and other exotic pests, and ensure they are registered with the department.
